PPGAI 4th Grooming Competition and Intl. Certification Exam

Novice Class Salon Freestyle Eligibility:

• Only for groomers with LESS THAN 5 years of grooming experience

• Only those who have never won 'Best in Show' or three 1st placements in any previous grooming contests

• Not for Owners or Breeders who have "finished a champion"

• Not for Instructors, Judges or CertifierS

Open Class Salon Freestyle Eligibility:

Open to all Competitors/Stylists/Professional groomers. A contestant placing and defeating someone in open division at any show is prohibited from competing in intermediate or entry division.

DOGS BREEDS ACCEPTED FOR ALL SALON FREESTYLE CLASSES

• All breeds that can display a noticeable change post grooming, will be accepted 

• Preferred breeds - All long coated dogs (e.g. Shihtzu, Maltese, Lhasa Apso, Yorkshire Terrier, Poodle, Poodle Mixes, Bichon, Pomeranian, Chow chow, Cocker Spaniel etc.)

• Breeds not accepted - Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, Saint Bernard, Setters, Labrador etc

Show Dog Class:

Open to all Competitors/ Breeders/Stylists/Professional groomers. 

Only show standard grooming on long haired dogs will be accepted

Breeds to consider -

Scissoring - Poodle (all sizes), Bichon, Bedlington Terrier, Kerry Blue Terrier, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and Other scissoring breeds 

Hand stripping - Schnauzer (all sizes), Cocker Spaniel, Wire fox Terrier, and Other wire-coated breeds requiring Hand stripping

Model Dog Mixed Class: (Grooming on Fake Fur Model dogs)

Open to all Competitors/ Breeders/Stylists/Professional groomers. 

All types of styles are allowed, including creative grooming.
Breed standard haircut on model dog wig - 

Bichon - Breed standard

Poodle - Lamb Trim / Scandinavian Trim/ Continental Trim

All contestants Must carry their own model dog skeleton and good quality wig

Wigs MUST be fixed on the skeleton and brushed out thoroughly before entering the show ring

ALL CLASSES MUST PREPARE THEIR DOGS BEFORE ENTERING THE COMPETITION RING.

KNOTS AND MATTS WILL LEAD TO MINUS MARKING BY THE JUDGE

CONTESTANTS ARE ALLOWED TO WASH AND BRUSH THEIR DOGS BEFORE THE COMPETITION

SANITARY TRIM - PAWS AND HYGIENE AREA MAY BE TRIMMED IN ADVANCE (EXCEPT POODLE PAWS)

NAILS MUST BE CUT AND FILED BEFORE

EARS MAY BE PLUCKED AND CLEANED PRIOR TO THE COMPETITION

Competitor conduct:

All competitors must wear competition aprons

Appropriate grooming attire and shoes should be worn at all times. Slippers, shorts etc. will not be allowed

Professional manner, attitude and good sportsmanship must be practiced at all times. These attributes are displayed when a competitor respects fellow competitors, judges, and contest dogs.

Contestants must maintain a safe styling station at all times, (open scissors left on the table for the dog to step on is an example of an unsafe styling station,) practice safe handling techniques at all times, apply technical skills with safety. Nicks, cuts and clipper burns are considered unsafe technical skill applications.

ANY GRIEVANCES MUST BE ADDRESSED BEFORE THE WINNERS ARE ANNOUNCED

Strictly Prohibited in Contest Ring:

Cell phones, radios and headsets, hair dryers, flame devices or smoking, beverages not in spill proof containers, visual or written instructions, very large tack boxes, kennel crates, standing on tables or chairs, coaching by anyone at any time during the competition

Warnings and Disqualifications:

Judges and Show Management will monitor the contestants during the competition to ensure a professional atmosphere is maintained. Warnings may be given to include: unprofessional image, unprofessional conduct, unsafe skill application, unsafe grooming station, unsafe handling, etc. A second warning may result in dismissal from the class. A third warning may result in dismissal from the show.

 ALL DECISIONS OF THE JUDGE WILL BE FINAL. THERE WILL BE NO GRIEVANCES CONSIDERED AFTER ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS.

Certification Exam

-Level C and Level B Certification in Pure Breed Category, Salon Free Style Pet Grooming Category 
-Level A Certification Pure Breed (Scissoring), Terrier (Hand-Stripping) & Spaniels Category 
-Are open for participating groomers who are members of PPGAI. 
 
• Level ‘C’ Certification  
-Level C Certification is open for all students from any grooming school or any experienced groomers that are acknowledged by their company. 

• Level ‘B’ Certification 
-Accept all certificates from different grooming association in India or overseas. Example, if you are a level C Certified Groomer from any grooming association in India or overseas, you can enter Level B Certification. Provided the Level ‘C’ Certificate is held above 6 months.  

• Level ‘A’ Certification 
-Accept all certificates from different grooming association in India or overseas. Example, if you are a level A Certified Groomer from any grooming association in India or overseas, you can enter Level A Certification. 

• MGA Level B holders registering for Level A certification please take note:-  
-Must hold both MGA Level B Pure Breed Certificate + MGA Level B Salon Free Style Certificate  
-Based on the above, the first MGA Level B certificate must be held old above 1 year 
 
Minimum Age: 16 years and above ( Any ages below 16 years old must provide Parents/Guardian authorization letter.) 
 

1. Registration Method & Fees:  
   a) Registration Fee OPEN CLASS + CERTIFICATION EXAM  
     Level C – INR 9000 ; Level B – INR 10000 ; Level A – INR 12000 
   b) For Certification Exam registration provide 2 Passport Size photo  
   c) For applicants of Level A & B, proof of certifications (photocopy) must be attached to entry form. Incomplete entries will be rejected.  
   d) Non-certified participants are welcome to join Level C Certification.  
   e) Must be a member of PPGAI
